What to Know About the Procedure

Allied Anesthesia is proud to offer one of the only Spravato Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) certified clinics in Kentucky.

Since there are risks for sedation, dissociation, and abuse/misuse, Spravato is only available through a restricted program called REMS and can only be administered in healthcare settings certified in the Spravato REMS Program.

We are dedicated to helping individuals with treatment-resistant depression, severe anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other mental health concerns.

Ketamine FDA package insert, and label clearly state it is an anesthetic medication that should be administered by a professional that is educated and experienced in anesthesiology. At our facility, all Ketamine treatments are administered by an experienced anesthesia provider who is board certified and is assisted by a registered nurse.

Our staff focuses on safely helping people find relief, offering hope in what can feel like a hopeless situation.

There are several contraindications to Ketamine treatment for underlying conditions such as uncontrolled hypertension, certain heart diseases, stroke, bladder diseases, liver diseases, elevated pressure in the eye, and certain psychiatric diagnoses that do not respond to Ketamine (such as schizophrenia, active psychosis, or active mania). These co-morbidities are not inclusive nor intended to convey every contraindication to Ketamine therapy. Each case will be reviewed individually by our provider.

You must be 18 years old or older and have an appropriate diagnosis of major depression, refractory depression, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder and/or diagnosis of chronic or neuropathic pain that has proven to be resistant to conventional therapies.

Please note: All new mood patients requesting infusion treatment must have a recent (within the last 6 months) psychiatric assessment by a provider such as a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, primary care physician or practitioner. Referrals from your current provider must request a specific referral for Ketamine treatment along with listing all diagnosis, corresponding diagnosis codes, prescribed medications, and most recent treatment records. Once the referral is received and reviewed by our staff, we will contact you with any additional questions prior to scheduling your initial visit.

To provide for your needs, our office accepts a variety of HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid, and other health plans.

We are also in network with Tricare (for retirees, active duty, reservists, and family members of our veterans). Please call our office to verify acceptance of your insurance carrier.

FAQ’S

How long does treatment take?

  • Ketamine Mental Health Mood Infusions are approximately 1 hour in duration with a 30-45 minute recovery period.
  • Ketamine Pain Infusions are 2-4 hours with a 30-60 minute recovery period.
  • Spravato treatments are approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes each visit.

Will I continue with my current referring healthcare provider?

YES, to be compliant in the Spravato REMS program you MUST stay engaged with your behavioral healthcare provider. For Ketamine infusion therapy we highly encourage patients to continue their care as well with their current psychiatrist, therapist or primary care provider as we do not provide mental health or primary care services.

Are there risks with Ketamine treatments?

All Ketamine treatments are administered by an experienced anesthesia provider who is board certified and is assisted by a registered nurse. During the treatment, we monitor blood pressure, heart rate and other vital signs to ensure patient safety. We have oxygen and cardiac monitoring capabilities for those more complex patients.

What to bring?

You will need someone you know and trust to drive you home from your visit. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Feel free to bring your favorite music, blanket, pillow and earbuds/headphones. We will need to be able to easily access your arm up to your elbow if you are receiving Ketamine therapy, so please do not wear clothing that will restrict your arms.
